Tax File Number(TFN) registration
1. What is a tax file number (TFN)?
Tax File Number refers to:
Your personal reference number in the tax and superannuation system
Your tax and superannuation records and important parts of your identity-so please keep them safe
Lifetime application-even if you change your name, change jobs, relocate across states, or settle overseas, you will all use the same tax number
Tips: Although you do not have to have a tax file number, without a tax file number, you will pay more taxes. You still cannot apply for government benefits, submit your tax return electronically or get an Australian Business Number (ABN)
